There was an interesting article by All Things Digital today about the risks associated with cloud computing and who really absorbs the risk should catastrophe strike...such as a major security breach. The article warns not to confuse security with risk. All cloud service providers talk about security, but what do they cover if a breach of security occurs? Again, according to the article, most providers only cover up to the cost of the contract. If your contract costs $10,000, then that's the limits of liability. But, the data stored with the cloud provider is probably worth much more. On average $4.5 Million according ot Drew Bartkiewicz of CyberFactors. Just think about the time and effort that goes into collecting geospatial data and all is lost in a breach incident.
